Former Bulawayo Magistrate Evia Matura Acquitted, Calls Ruling ‘Christmas Day’ Present

Former Bulawayo Provincial Magistrate Mrs. Evia Matura walked free on Friday after the High Court in Bulawayo quashed her conviction for alleged criminal abuse of office.

Matura described her acquittal as a “Christmas Day” present, saying she felt vindicated by the court’s decision.

The High Court set aside the lower court’s ruling, effectively clearing her of the charge.

She was previously convicted and sentenced in connection with allegations of criminal abuse of office during her tenure as a provincial magistrate.

Matura’s release follows a legal challenge to her conviction.

She was granted her freedom immediately after Friday’s High Court judgment.
